Dear Nursing Candidate:                                                                                       

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Math Proficiency Test.  In order to assist you, we are offering the following guidelines for taking this test.

  • The MPT is given by appointment.  There are only 15 fifteen seats available per testing session.  To make a testing appointment, please call either the Highland Lakes ASC at (248) 942-3049 or Southfield ASC at (248) 233-2735).  You may also wish to stop in and pick up a sample test or access the sample test online at www.oaklandcc.edu.   The Highland Lakes ASC is located in Woodland Hall, Room 20 and the Southfield ASC is located in Room 202.
  • If you have any questions or need assistance to prepare you for the MPT, please contact the ASC at the Highland Lakes or Southfield campus to make an appointment with an MPT tutor.  The MPT tutors are provided at no charge to the student.
  • The time allotment for the test is two hours.  If you need any accommodations due to a disability (i.e. learning disability), you must make arrangements with the ACCESS office at (248) 942-3080.

  • The MPT is a 50 question multiple choice test.  All supplies are provided and collected.  No calculators are allowed.

  • If you do not pass the MPT on your first or second attempt, you must meet with an MPT tutor for a minimum of one hour to prepare to re-take the test with success.

  • You will not be able to take the test the same day that you work with a tutor.

           If you need to re-take the test a third time, you will be required to meet with a counselor to discuss an appropriate plan of action before you can re-take the test the third and final time.

           A student who does not pass the MPT on the third try will be disqualified as a candidate for the nursing program.
