Study Groups

What are Study Groups?

Certain courses/sections have regularly scheduled study groups. They are led by students who have successfully completed the course and received training in leading study groups. Study groups offer students opportunities to:

  • Review course material with peers from their class
  • Ask questions in a small group setting
  • Learn how to learn through proven study strategies
Why attend Study Groups?
  • Studies show that students who regularly attend get better grades
  • Students get to know their classmates and make friends
When and where do Study Groups meet?
  • Groups meet on campus for one hour a week
  • Students are asked for input on convenient meeting times and often select the hour before or after the class meets
Which courses offer Study Groups?
Courses offering study groups vary from semester to semester, but often include math, psychology, and history. For specific information, check with ASC Faculty, your counselor, or your instructor.
How are Study Group Leaders selected?
Faculty recommend a student who has done well in class to work as a study group leader the next semester. Interested students may talk with their instructor or contact ASC faculty at 248.246.2437. Study Group Leaders must be eligible to work as Work Study Students or as Student Assistants.
