Learning outcomes are measurable learning targets which describe what a
student needs to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate
or create in order to achieve experiences outlined in the OCC
course catalog description of a credentialed program.
Ideally, the learning outcomes for an entire program plan should progress
from students remembering and understanding basic knowledge, to applying and
analyzing, and then to evaluation and creating. Learning outcomes should be
written using verbs which describe measurable and observable actions of the
learner.
- Example: Students will demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to
trouble shoot networks.
- Example: Music students will exhibit proficiency with the following: use and
analysis of altered chords and non-harmonic tones; enharmonic, phrase,
common-chord and chromatic modulations; and chords with added tones.
- Example: Students will program the motion and logic for an automated system
to correctly execute the application.
- Example: Students will apply acquired knowledge of current techniques
associated with biotechnology in a laboratory setting.
Please refer to the "Criteria for Program Assessment Plans" section in order
to determine the required number of learning outcomes for any given program.
