Here's a pop quiz:

1. You'd like to shorten the time it'll take to complete your four-year degree. – True False

2. You'd like to experience small classes and personal attention from your instructor. – True False

3. You'd like to brush up on a subject you're struggling with – True False

4. You'd like to save money – True False

If you answered "True" to any of these, consider picking up some credits during the Spring/Summer semester at Oakland Community College. Dozens of transferable courses are available.

Timing is Key

If you're going to do it, you should act now. Final registration occurs at the start of May, and if you want official guest student status you'll need to provide OCC with a guest student application from your current college. The Spring semester begins on May 7 and concludes August 22 for 15 week classes, but remember that classes are offered in a variety of time frames from five to 15 weeks in length. Final registration for summer classes is June 28 and 29. Most summer classes begin on July 2 and conclude on August 22.

Planning is crucial

You'll also need time to talk with counselors at both institutions to make sure that the course(s) you want to transfer will do just that. Some are likely to fulfill the general education requirements for bachelor's degrees at a variety of institutions, while others provide a more tailored academic value that may or may not be equivalent to a required course at your institution.
