Two
years ago Elizabeth Buccellato was a newly divorced mother of three who
needed a good career. Today she’s working at the famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as a
diagnostic medical sonographer.
How did she do it? OCC made it all possible, she says.
Beth graduated from OCC’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program in August 2002. Months before she graduated, Beth
received a job offer from Mayo Clinic, which has hired other OCC
graduates in the past.
She loves her job and is currently working in outpatient
sonography, performing ultrasound tests on patients to diagnose various medical conditions. Before the end of the year, Beth
expects to begin advanced training at Mayo and its affiliated area
hospitals to learn a specialty area - vascular sonography. Life in Minnesota is different than Michigan, Beth says,
but she and her children, now 11, 9, and 6, really like it: "We live in
a small town near Rochester. There’s a cornfield behind the house, and we see lots of cows nearby." Beth even gets a ride to
work, on a special bus Mayo sends out to pick up employees.
Beth credits much of her success to help from OCC: "I’m
still amazed and so grateful to OCC for all the help and support I
received from financial aid, supplemental instructors and my caring professors. My life has been completely turned around
thanks to OCC."
