Workforce Development Services Help Area Businesses
Oakland Community College offers some unique resources for business
and industry, as well as for individuals, through its Workforce
Development Services (WDS) program, housed at the M-TEC(sm) building at
the college’s Auburn Hills Campus.
Among
its products and services are:
• Corporate consultation
• Needs assessment and training
• Skills assessment and profiling
• Internship and placement services
• Career development
• Outplacement services
• Computer software learning on demand and on-line training.
One of the most in-demand services at WDS is computer training in
instructor-led or selfpaced, open entry/open exit formats. A PC Support
Technician program, begun in response to Oakland County’s critical need
for
entry-level computer support staff, continues to attract students.
During the last years, WDS has also begun several new services. One is
Leadership and Management Training, which uses the time-tested FrontLine
Leadership Program to help companies develop leaders from within their
current ranks.
Modules – including interpersonal skills, individual and team
performance, managing change and problem solving - are delivered in an
interactive format.
Companies can focus on modules of particular interest, or can offer
employees the entire program. A second new addition is the ACT Center,
located in the M-TEC facility. This center for distance learning makes
more than 2000 on-line training courses available to companies and their
employees in areas such as management and leadership, personal
development, information technology and productivity. Courses can be
bundled for a single employee, groups of employees or an entire
organization, making an easy and cost-effective way to provide training. |
