Lecture Comprehension and Note Taking

Prerequisite: ESL 1420 or appropriate MTELP/MTAC scores.

(Enrollment is limited to students whose first language is not English.)

This course emphasizes listening strategies for the purpose of synthesizing information from academic lectures and texts. Practice with figurative and idiomatic language and phrasal verbs will be reviewed in context of academic lectures and films. Students will practice various techniques for note-taking and listen to lectures on various topics. Appropriate methods for seeking clarification and an orientation to a variety of cultural expectations in United States’ universities will be investigated and discussed. Course/lab fees.
