Bloodborne Pathogens
Oakland Community College is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for our employees. In pursuit of this goal, the OCC Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Program and Exposure Control Plan (ECP) have been developed to eliminate or minimize occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in accordance with the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.1030 and Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) rules 325.70001-.70018, “Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Infectious Diseases.”
The ECP is a key document to assist the college in implementing and ensuring compliance with the standard, thereby protecting our employees. The BBP Program covers all employees, including student workers, who may have occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and Syphilis.
