Transportation
Hazardous materials are used by OCC for instructional, educational, custodial, and maintenance purposes. Regulated hazardous materials potentially found at OCC campuses and facilities include boiler treatment chemicals, hazardous and liquid industrial wastes, paints and paint thinners, used oil, and laboratory chemicals, among other chemical products.
These hazardous materials may be subject to specific packaging, documentation, and other shipping requirements. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) regulate the shipment of hazardous materials on public roads.
The OCC Hazardous Materials Transportation Program addresses the proper handling of hazardous materials shipped to and from OCC facilities. Topics include:
- Identification and classification of hazardous materials
- Hazard determination
- Packaging
- Marking and labeling of packages
- Shipping paper preparation and certifications
