Labor and Delivery (OB) Objectives
The student
performing clinical shifts in the Labor and Delivery area will:
| 1. |
Properly assess Labor and
Delivery patients using accepted interview and clinical assessment
techniques |
| |
|
| 2. |
Assist all staff as needed
in any activities which fall under the student’s scope of practice |
| |
|
| 3.
|
Assist in vaginal and/or
caesarian births, including delivery of the placenta |
| |
|
| 4.
|
Demonstrate proper
treatments and interventions for patients in labor, including but not
limited to: oxygen administration, proper positioning, EKG application, and
assistance with medicine administration |
| |
|
| 5.
|
Assess neonates after
delivery with proper techniques including APGAR evaluation, vital signs,
suctioning, and performing BVM ventilations and or chest compressions if
required |
| |
|
| 6.
|
Properly clamp and cut the
umbilical cord |
| |
|
| 7. |
Correctly assess and treat
any complications the arise in the labor and delivery patient such as
vaginal bleeding |
| |
|
| 8. |
Recognize and properly treat
complications of labor and delivery patients, including but not limited to:
breech presentation, prolapsed umbilical cord, limb presentation, multiple
births, premature births, meconium staining, ectopic pregnancy,
preeclampsia, eclampsia, seizures, miscarriage and abortion, traumatic
injuries, and stillbirth |
