EMT-Advanced (Paramedic)
The OCC Paramedic Program is offered once per year. The the EMT
Intermediate courses (or completion of another approved Intermediate program) are required prerequisites. The lecture and lab courses are 15
weeks long, meeting two
times per week for six-hour sessions. The lecture and lab are followed by
15 weeks of clinicals and an internship. Prerequisites include completion of a Basic EMT program,
completion of an Intermediate program, Anatomy and Physiology I & II
( BIO 2630 & 2640), and Pathophysiology (BIO 2660). EMS 1500 (EMS
Communications) is a requirement for completion of the program, but may be taken
at any time during the course of training. EMS 2600 is required before the
EMS program director will approve a student to take the paramedic National
Registry exam. Currently, students successfully completing all courses may
be eligible to apply for the National Registry Paramedic Exam and to apply for a
State Paramedic license. Prerequisite and required courses are listed as
follows. Students must be accepted into the program prior to registration, and
must attend an orientation if they have not attended courses in the OCC EMS
Program previously.

- Completion of Basic EMT and Intermediate Programs
- BIO 2630 & 2640 Anatomy & Physiology I &II (or equivalent transfer from another facility)
Paramedic Courses
- EMS 1500 EMS Communications (may be taken at
any time)
- EMS 2200 Advanced EMT II Lecture/Lab (Includes Pharmacology)
- EMS 2300 Advanced EMT III Lecture/Lab (Includes Cardiology)
- EMS 2400 Paramedic Clinical
- EMS 2500 Internship (immediately follows Advanced EMT II & III)
- EMS 2600 National Registry Prep
- BIO 2250 Pathophysiology
