EMT-IntermediateThe OCC EMT-Intermediate Program is offered once per year, in the fall semester. The lecture and lab course is 15 weeks long, meeting once per week. It is followed by a 15 week clinical, which is taken in the winter semester. Prerequisites include completion of a Basic EMT program and Anatomy and Physiology I (OCC's BIO 2630). Completion of Anatomy and Physiology II (BIO 2640) and Pathophysiology (BIO 2660) are required for completion, and may be taken concurrently with the lecture/lab course, and clinical course, respectively. The OCC Intermediate program (or completion of another approved Intermediate Program) is a pre-requisite for the OCC Paramedic courses. Currently, students successfully completing the program may be eligible to apply for the National Registry Specialist Exam and to apply for a State EMT - Specialist license. Prerequisite and required courses are listed as follows. Students must be accepted into the program prior to registration and if the student did not attend OCC for his or her Basic EMT classes, he or she must attend an orientation session.
Prerequisites: Notes: BIO 2630, BIO 2640, and MAT 1040 or 90% test score on math proficiency exam all must be completed before any classes in the third level may be taken. Students may take the National Registry Specialist exam upon completion of all first and second level courses, but obtaining that certification is not required for third level courses. |
