Background

The dramatic increase in energy efficiency/sustainability and renewable energy activity in Michigan has driven an increase demand for qualified instructors throughout the educational system.  It is critical that the instruction for Technical courses are provided with a foundation and context for teaching their skill sets within national and state energy efficiency, sustainability and renewable energy standards.

The grant from the Michigan Community College Association that is funding this work is designed to meet the following goals.

Faculty Development: Goal is to assess the immediate professional development and certification needs for faculty within the technical schools, colleges and workforce training organizations and to provide quality on-going professional development and certification for faculty in the technical schools, colleges and workforce training organizations in Michigan

Facilitate Sharing Of Best Practice: Goal is to provide an on-line learning community for instructors through the Michigan Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability that will increase the collaboration among educators for sharing and updating renewable energies curricula and instructional techniques.

Oakland Community College has designated a facilitator responsible for promoting participation; prompting and facilitating discussions; and providing relevant information and resource links to conferences, literature, tools and programs on the internet for the faculty learning community.
