The Michigan Community College Association has received
assistance to create:
1) Training /professional development for community college
and high school instructors in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and
sustainability.
2) The creation of an online learning community where
instructors can share information on renewable energies, energy
efficiency, and sustainability curricula, instructional techniques, lab
equipment, and other resources.
This grant can offer to a limited number of
instructors professional development offerings such as, but not limited

Background
The dramatic increase in energy
efficiency/sustainability and renewable energy activity in
Michigan has driven an
increase demand for qualified instructors throughout the educational
system. It is critical that the instruction for Technical courses
are provided with a foundation and context for teaching their skill sets
within national and state energy efficiency, sustainability and
renewable energy standards.
The grant from the Michigan Community College Association that
is funding this work is designed to meet the following goals.
Faculty Development: Goal is to assess the immediate
professional development and certification needs for faculty within the
technical schools, colleges and workforce training organizations and to
provide quality on-going professional development and certification for
faculty in the technical schools, colleges and workforce training
organizations in
Michigan
Facilitate Sharing Of Best Practice: Goal
is to provide an on-line learning community for instructors through the
Michigan Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability that will
increase the collaboration among educators for sharing and updating
renewable energies curricula and instructional techniques.
Oakland
Community College
has designated a facilitator responsible for promoting participation;
prompting and facilitating discussions; and providing relevant
information and resource links to conferences, literature, tools and
programs on the internet for the faculty learning community.
