PDTC's History
The Professional Development and Training Center (PDTC) began in late fall of 1998 when OCC’s administration recognized
the need for professional development for OCC employees in order to meet the changing needs in education. The unit was established
in the Pontiac Center with workshops located at all college sites. Since its inception, the PDTC has provided over 146,900
hours of training. A wide variety of workshops continue to be developed and offered in academic, technical and soft-skills
categories. Offerings are developed based on recommendations from supervisors and employee advisory committees as well as
feedback from employee attendance at PDTC workshops.
Professional Development and Training at OCC has evolved as a routine part of each employee’s work life. The Chancellor’s
Cabinet determines a set of obligatory training requirements each year for all work groups of the College. The College increased
the collaborative effort between employees and their supervisors to align workshop attendance to meet the needs of both
the individual employee and the future direction of particular units of the College. The PDTC continues to offer a varied
menu of offerings to meet the needs of individuals of varying levels of expertise as well as the needs of specific work
groups. Employees select from this menu based on interest and experience, with individual supervisors selecting the obligatory
training that would meet each individual employee’s needs.
The Professional Development and Training Center remains committed to continuously improving and providing the offerings
available to employees in order to meet the ever changing needs of OCC and its educational community.
