General Description/Summary of Purpose:

Oversees management of the Smith Theatre activities. Works with appropriate faculty and staff regarding productions scheduled through the theatre discipline and events scheduled with the external community. Provides direction in promoting the use of the Smith Theatre to the external community. Interacts with all areas to insure departmental activities conform to the overall campus strategies. Reports to the Dean of Academic & Student Services. Incumbent must work flexible hours during peak work periods depending on activities scheduled.

Duties/Illustrative Tasks:

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned the title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required.

1. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Smith Theatre (purchasing supplies, inventory of equipment, etc.).

2. Assist in the planning, coordination, management and budget of the Smith Theatre with college staff.

3. Coordinate and manages public relations, communications both internal and external for the Theatre, including working with College graphics to create and design departmental publications, brochures, advertisements, web pages and e-marketing efforts.

4. Represent the college community at functions of the Smith Theatre.

5. Provide reports on the success of events and participation in events at the theatre, as requested.

6. Maintain all theatre equipment and ensure appropriate repairs are made. Evaluate equipment to determine if additional purchases are needed. Make appropriate recommendations to administration.

7. Responsible for various aspects of a production in the theatre (e.g. set concept, set construction, lighting design, etc.).

8. Participate in production meetings as appropriate.

9. Supervise the students participating as it relates to the production (e.g. students constructing and painting the set, ushers, etc.).

10. Perform related tasks as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Design, Theatre Production or related field.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years experience in theatre work. Experience with multi-cultural students and staff preferred.


Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

- Skill in verbal and written communication
- Knowledge of various graphics and publishing software programs, computer hardware devices and their uses
- Knowledge in various aspects of theatre production (e.g. design, lighting, sound, etc.)
- Knowledge of accounting principles and budgeting
- Knowledge of current supervisory practices and principles
- Organizational skills
- Skill in public relations
- Skill in problem solving
- Ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural diverse working environment
