General Description/Summary of Purpose:

Provides programming support of the software used in the college systems. This includes problem resolution, software modification, new software development, and general technical assistance to the user community.

Works with users in identifying and resolving problems, determining better solutions and/or business processes.

The Programmer Analyst – Datatel is focused on the Datatel/Unix environment, supporting the main administrative system of the College and includes working with users in managing and prioritizing the administrative systems project list. Reports to the IT Project Analyst.



Duties/Illustrative Tasks:

This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required.

1. Research and resolve application problems.

2. Analyze and refine OCC applications requirements.

3. Design, program, test and document solutions to college requirements.

4. Work the users in testing solutions.

5. Rigorously apply internal procedures and policies to ensure quality work.

6. Log and resolve software work orders.

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

8. Work with users in testing Datatel provided changes (patches, upgrades, etc).


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Information systems or related field. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree with three years of recent work experience in application programming.



Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

EXPERIENCE:
Three years experience in application software programming
• Datatel - for a transactional or enterprise system

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Knowledge of GUI application use in Windows environment
- General familiarity with UNIX and Windows operating systems
- Skills in both verbal and written communication
- Ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural diverse working environment
For Programmer Analyst - Datatel position
- Knowledge of enterprise or transactional programming for applications
- Knowledge of Datatel programming strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Unidata or “Multi-Valued Databases” preferred
- Familiarity with UNIX programming environments preferred

Experience in higher education applications preferred.
Experience with multi-cultural students and staff preferred.
