General Description/Summary of Purpose:
VICE CHANCELLOR FOR ACADEMIC AND STUDENT AFFAIRSOakland Community College (OCC) is accepting applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at the District Office. The Vice Chancellor is responsible for all of the College’s instructional programs, education support resources and all teaching personnel. The Vice Chancellor is also responsible for student development activities and programs, including athletics.
OCC is a comprehensive multi-campus public two-year institution comprised of five campus locations serving over 28,000 full-time students per semester in a dynamic growth area of southeast Michigan, Oakland County. Duties/Illustrative Tasks:
In its search for Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, the College will assess the candidates’ demonstrated leadership ability in the following areas:
Essential Characteristics of the Position
• Collaboratively lead the continuous development of the academic master plan and monitor its implementation by the campuses
• Effectively work with campus and faculty leadership to assure that the overarching goals of the College are implemented, through shared governance processes
• Coordinate the overall planning, development and management of college courses and academic programs, including K-12 relationships, articulation agreements and distance learning
• Develop and oversee student development activities and programs which enrich and support student life, including athletics
• Plan, develop and implement a program of curriculum review and development for all instructional areas, educational outcomes and assessment programs
• Act as external academic representative and leads the development of academic partnerships
• Oversee compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies
• Lead efforts to provide global awareness and international educational opportunities for students, faculty and administration
• Work collaboratively with the campuses to identify and coordinate curriculum growth in response to the educational needs of the local community and southeast Michigan
• Develop opportunities and guidelines for college-wide academic and student affairs activities
• Establish and interpret academic standards and policies of the college to students, faculty, administrators and the general public
• Identify and support professional development activities for the faculty, including sabbatical leave oversight
• Supervise the allocation of resources in the academic and student affairs areas
• Develop, monitor, and maintain effective enrollment management and retention processes and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications• Earned Doctorate. Candidates who are actively working on the completion of a doctorate and will receive the degree by January 1, 2010 will be considered.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
• A minimum of five years higher education senior level administrative experience, preferably within community colleges.• Higher education teaching experience preferred.
