General Description/Summary of Purpose:
Responsible for the coordination and administration of the non-credit Emergency Medical Service and Fire Training courses offered by the college. Ensures the training curriculum offered by the college meets standards of the State of Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council and State of National Accreditations standards for Emergency Medical Services. Provide leadership in the development of new programs and training activities to remain current in the Fire Service and EMS occupations. Reports to the Director of Emergency Services Training.Duties/Illustrative Tasks:
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required.1. Coordinate and monitor the fire and emergency medical services basic and advanced training sessions to ensure state mandated training specifications are maintained; observe classes; communicate with instructor regarding class content to ensure quality of instruction.
2. Recruit, hire, schedule and oversee adjunct training staff; adjust schedules as needed.
3. Responsible for marketing and recruitment of students; coordinate new student orientations.
4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations through news and publications in order to keep the fire and medical services program in compliance with state and national standards.
5. Maintain required records for state and national licensing and accreditation purposes and college tracking and reporting.
6. Coordinate Advisory Committee activities in order to keep programming current and responsive to area needs.
7. Identify new training opportunities in the public and private sectors and develop training applications as needed.
8. Work with other first responder training groups to maximize training resources and opportunities for students.
9. Participate in state and local professional organizations. Maintain professional relationships with clinical sites and area emergency services agencies.
10. Work with faculty and staff to ensure program quality and consistency.
11. Assist with developing and monitoring the training budget.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Fire Fighter Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Homeland Security/Emergency Management, Business Administration or related field or Associate’s degree in the above fields and three years experience in fire or emergency services. Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council Certification, required. Current EMS Instructor Coordinator Certification required, or eligible to become EMS Instructor Coordinator Certified within first year of employment.AND
EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in a supervisory capacity in a fire or emergency medical service agency. Teaching experience in fire fighting and/or emergency services. Experience with multi-cultural students and staff preferred.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Fire Officer Certification and EMT and/or Paramedic license.
