General Description/Summary of Purpose:
To ensure the safety and well being of the children at all times. To be alert to the needs of the children at all times. To contribute to the overall operation of the Child Care Center. The employee is expected to work as a team player in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.Duties/Illustrative Tasks:
1. Provide physical care to children, including assistance with the routines of washing, eating, dressing, etc.2. Implement the daily program according to the lesson plans provided by the Coordinator.
3. Provide guidance and discipline in accordance with the Child Care Center policies.
4. Report to the Coordinator any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
5. Keep the Center’s storage rooms and bathrooms clean and orderly; sets up play areas and materials; prepares and serves snacks.
6. Interact with parents on a daily basis in a supportive, professional manner by written and verbal communication.
7. Supervise student workers, interns, or volunteers assigned to the Center, which may include on-going staff training and evaluations.
8. Open the Center in the morning or closes the Center in the evening as scheduled by the Coordinator.
9. Assist in the daily and on-going record keeping of the children and staff as requested.
10. Attend all staff development activities as required.
11. Maintain certification in CPR (annually) for appropriate age of children.
12. Train and direct college student personnel with appropriate approval.
13. Perform related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
One of the following is required: Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child development or a child-related field; OR Associate degree or higher in early childhood education or child development; OR Montessori credential or Child development associate credential AND 480 hours of experience*; OR High school diploma/GED and 12 semester hours from an accredited college or university in a child-related field AND 960 hours experience*; OR High school diploma/GED and a combination of 12 semester hours from an accredited college or university and/or 18 Continuing Education Unit (CEUs) awarded by a state board of education or an accredited college or university sponsor of continuing education units to equal 180 clock hours AND 1,920 hours experience* OR High school diploma/GED and a combination of 6 semester hours from an accredited college or university in a child-related field and/or 9 CEUs awarded by a state board of education or an accredited college or university sponsor of continuing education to equal 90 clock hours and 3,840 hours experience* AND be at least 19 years of age. Completion of Infant/toddler curriculum course preferred. Must provide form FIA-194 from the Family Independence Agency. The employee is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.*Hours of experience mean the experience shall be in a licensed or registered facility serving the ages and developmental abilities of the children the caregiver will care for
AND
• Successful completion of Clerical Skills Battery (Language Arts and Math)
• Current certification in infant, child and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
• Good physical health and stamina to perform required duties• Flexible in receiving assignments and adapting to change
• Skills in both verbal and written communications
