Straight Ahead is a culturally diverse group of women who combine the elements of jazz into a blend of traditional, Latin and contemporary jazz. Widely recognized for their eclectic and soulful approach, their sound moves comfortably from mainstream jazz to Latin salsa. Their live performances are a joyful celebration. The group was named finalist in the “Sony Innovators” competition in their inaugural year. They have amassed a string of honors, including opening for the legendary Nina Simone at the Montreaux-Switzerland Jazz Festival and being nominated for a Grammy. Put on your dancing shoes or just sit back and enjoy the sounds that made the twenties roar and the thirties sizzle, performed by the fabulous Hotel Savarine Society Orchestra. They will be joined by the Pleasant Moments Vintage Dancers, an Ann Arbor-based performance group specializing in social dances of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Come and enjoy the fun.
