References and Resources
The following list of resources can be used to help you select your topic and gather information before you begin writing your essay. Staff in each of the OCC libraries are available to assist you in locating additional resources on your chosen topic. Students may inquire for assistance at the OCC Library website or from any of the Librarians at each campus. The OCC Library home page is located at: http://oaklandcc.edu/Library/
The Library Catalog can be used to find many resources for your subject, such as encyclopedias and fact books.
Doing a subject keyword search on “art criticism”, the name of an artist, etc. may be helpful.
If you are unsure of the subject or person about whom you wish to write, there are numerous encyclopedias in the Reference section of the library. Music books are in the section M, art and architecture are both in N, and literature is in P. It is best to check with the librarian for literature materials because there is a lot of it and it is classified by both time period in which the author lived and their nationality. You can even begin your research with the usual encyclopedias – Britannica is always a good one. All the college libraries have it and it is also available on-line.

Journal articles and databases
Click the link to the databases that the library subscribes and you can log in with your OCC user name and password to access the list of those available. The JSTOR database and the Academic Search Elite database provide access to the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, which may be quite helpful. In addition, those databases in the General section, such as WilsonSelectPlus and Academic OneFile, may be useful. Most link to full text articles, which are available electronically.
Digital Collections
If you use the Detroit Area Library Network's Digital Projects site, you will find a number of digital collections that might provide some help if you are writing about Art. Available to you are a wide variety of resources such as DIA Bulletins, exhibit catalogs and Film Source. Film Source is “your passport to one of the finest collections documenting the American experience. View motion picture films illustrating the impact of the automobile, industrial manufacturing and design, and many other aspects of American culture and everyday life - all from The Henry Ford's collections.”
