Electronic Student Loan Applications
Oakland Community College (OCC) has moved to a new electronic loan application process for Federal Stafford Loans (FSL).
Prior to starting the online loan process, you must complete the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), using one of the following school codes (select the campus where your financial aid will be located) and provide any other documentation requested by the OCC Office of Financial Assistance & Scholarships (OFAS).

You will need an email address to complete this process. Free emails are available at www.hotmail.com or
www.yahoomail.com.
To access the loan request process, please visit http://www.oaklandcc.edu/finaid/LoanApplications.htm and select “Student Loans” located in the left column.
New borrowers and returning borrowers at OCC who took out loans before September 1, 2004, will need their driver’s license (if applicable), and two references, including complete addresses and phone numbers, to complete the steps below:
Step 1 - Entrance Counseling
Step 2 - Campus Selection
Step 3 - Lender Selection
Step 4 - Oakland Community College Loan Request Form
Step 5 - Electronically sign the Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Returning borrowers who took out loans after September 1, 2004, will complete the steps below:
Step 1 - Campus Selection
Step 2 – Oakland Community College Loan Request Form
Step 3 – Exit Loan Counseling
The new electronic loan process will take approximately 45 to 60 minutes to complete. You must complete the ENTIRE process once you start. You do not have the option to “start, save, and stop.” You must complete it without interruption. If you have to interrupt, you will need to start again at the beginning.

Electronic Loans Do's & Don'ts
RETURNING BORROWERS who borrowed after September 1, 2004
- Do get an email address if you don’t have one. Visit www.yahoomail.com or www.hotmail.com for a free email address.
- Do apply for financial assistance by completing the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Do Select “Returning Federal Stafford Loan Borrower after September 1, 2004.”
- Do continue to click when you see the “Click” button in order to complete the application process.
- Do have on hand a copy of your current, permanent address, driver’s license number, (if you have one) and two references, including their complete addresses and telephone numbers.
- Do close your browser when finished. Select file, close, or hit the “x” in the upper right hand corner.

- Don't walk away and leave the computer unattended. The system will not save the information and you will have to begin again from the beginning.
- Don't skip the Exit Counseling section; it is a required section for completion.
- Don't skip any of the three required steps: College section, College loan request section, and Exit Loan section.
- Don't skip the Certification and Authorization statements.
- If you don’t see “Exit Counseling Complete” you have not completed the returning borrower’s loan process.
- Don't forget you must complete 7 of the 10 questions in the “Final Test” section to satisfy your Exit Counseling requirements.
- Don't continue after you complete the Exit Counseling section. You are DONE!!!!!
- Don't forget to print a copy of the MPN for your records.
- Don't forget you are required to repay all student loans.

FIRST-TIME OCC BORROWERS & RETURNING STUDENTS who borrowed before September 1, 2004

- Do apply for financial assistance by completing the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Do click on “First time OCC borrower” to start (if you are a first-time borrower) or “Returning OCC borrower before September 1, 2004 (if you previously borrowed before September 1, 2004).
- Do continue to click when you see the “Click” button in order to complete the application process.
- Do complete all five (5) steps of the loan application process.
- Do allow 45 to 60 minutes to complete.
- Do successfully complete 7 of the 11 Entrance Counseling final test questions.
- Do close your browser when finished. Select file, close, or hit the “x” in the upper right hand corner.

- Don't skip any of the 5 steps: the Entrance Counseling, Campus Selection, Lender Selection, OCC loan request, and electronically sign the Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- Don't forget that you must complete the ENTIRE process once you begin. You do not have the option to “start, save, and in some places go back”. You can lose the information and then you must begin again from the beginning.
- Don't forget to complete the loan application for First Time Borrowers at OCC.
- Don't forget to write down your password. You will need it to complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- Don't forget the first reference should be a parent or legal guardian (if living).
- Don't forget to complete the electronic signature page.
- Don't forget to print a copy of the MPN for your records.
- Don't forget you are required to repay all student loans.
