Scholarship Name: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Scholarship

Award Amount:  (see below)

RIT awards over $5 million in merit-based and need-based scholarships to new and continuing transfer students each year.  RIT offers three merit-based scholarship programs for transfer students in addition to $5 million in need-based aid.

Trustee Scholarships*

RIT will award Trustee Scholarships valued at $7,500 and $9,000 per academic year to transfer students entering RIT in 2008-2009 who meet the following qualifications:

Transfer Achievement Scholarships*

RIT will award Achievement Scholarships to transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, as computed by RIT, who have completed over 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours at previous institutions.  Scholarships are valued at $6,000 per academic year for qualified candidates (may not be combined with Trustee Scholarship).

*In order to be considered for either the Trustee or Transfer Achievement Scholarship, students must apply for admission and provide all required admissions credentials by the following deadlines:

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships

RIT will award Phi Theta Kappa scholarships valued at $2,000 per year to every PTK member who completes an associate degree prior to enrolling at RIT.  Scholarships are renewable with a cumulative GPA or 2.8 or higher.  In order to qualify for the PTK scholarship, proof of membership must be submitted prior to acceptance.

Minority Transfer Scholarships

RIT will award scholarships to African-American, Hispanic, and Native American transfer students based on academic qualifications, leadership potential, and demonstrated financial need.  Scholarships are valued at $3,000 per academic year for qualified candidates.  Admissions applications must be complete by April 1, 2008 for consideration.

RIT hosts two Transfer Days, scheduled for Friday, January 11, 2008 and Friday, March 14, 2008.  These programs are intended to provide students with the opportunity to visit RIT departments and meet with faculty, Admissions, Cooperative Education and Placement, Financial Aid, Housing, and current RIT students.

Scholarship Name: Sallie Mae Fund Scholarship Programs 2008-2009

Addressing financial need through scholarships is a key priority of the Sallie Mae Fund.  Applications, eligibility, and deadline information for scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year will be available starting mid-January 2008 at The Sallie Mae Fund's website, www.salliemaefund.org (NOTE:  the 911 Scholarship Program is ongoing).

Scholarship Name: ScholarshipExperts.com Scholarship Program

 

The Education Matters $5K Scholarship

One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to the student who best responds (in 250 words or fewer) to the following online topic:  "What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?"  To be eligible to apply, students must be residents of the United States, be 13 years of age or older, and must have completed a scholarship search profile online at www.scholarshipexperts.com.  The deadline for students to apply online is October 31, 2008.  Students can apply now at http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/apply.htx.

 

The 2008 Shout It Out Scholarship

Five students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.  Winners will be chosen based on their responses (250 words or fewer) to the topic:  "If you were given a 60-second commercial spot on television that would air repeatedly during the presidential debates, what message would you shout out to America?"  To be eligible to apply, students must be 13 years of age or older at the time of application and be legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia.  Apply online at http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/apply.htx before September 30, 2008.
