Hospital Pharmacy Program General Information
The Hospital Pharmacy Technician Program offered at OCC is either a one
year certificate or a two year Associate Degree option. Students who have
graduated from this program will be eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician
Certification Board (PTCB) examination to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician
(CphT). Please note, the examination is a national test and will be recognized
throughout the United States.
Program Outline
In order to be admitted to the Pharmacy Technician classes, for either
option, the student must complete the following prerequisite courses with
a grade of "C" or better:
| CIS 1000- Computer Literacy |
MAT 1100- Elementary Algebra |
| ENG 1510- English Composition I |
MED 1103- Medical Terminology |
NOTE: Students who desire an Associate Degree must take MAT 1630.
For the Certificate Program, the student must take all of the
following HPT courses in addition to the prerequisites listed above with
a grade of "C" or better..
| HPT 2000- Orientation to Hospital & Hospital Pharmacy |
HPT 2100- Intro. to Pharmaceutical Concepts |
| HPT 2200- Drug Distribution Systems & Procedures |
HPT 2210- Administration of Medications |
| HPT 140.8- Field Experience I |
HPT 240.6- Field Experience II |
For the Associate Degree Program, the student must take all of
the following courses (in addition to all classes listed above) and attain
a grade of "C" or better.

ENG 1510- English Composition I |
BIO 1570- Microbiology of Health & Disease OR
BIO 2710 Microbiology |
ENG 1520- English Composition II |
| CHE 1510- General Chemistry I |
