About OCC Libraries
Below is an overview of OCC Libraries'
major resources and services. These comprise both traditional and
electronic modes. (You will find the same links on our
home page.) For library highlights,
see "Focus On" lower left of this page.
RESOURCES
Library Catalog
What can you buy from the
library catalog? Nothing; it's all free. The library
catalog, a Web-based, searchable database, describes everything
owned by all five OCC libraries, including
books, videos, CDs, magazines, journals, and newspapers.
And you can learn whether they're checked out or not, renew
books online, and more. The catalog also contains links to
carefully selected Web sites and electronic books.
Articles / Databases
Millions of full-text articles from magazines, journals, and
newspapers are available online, plus citations to millions more
in print form. Also, we link you to great reference
sources such as the Gale Literary Databases and World
Almanac. Most of these databases are available off
campus to OCC students.
Subjects A - Z
Don't
know where to start? Navigate your subject with
a one-stop subject guide. Our guides
are based on OCC's curriculum and point you to appropriate
electronic databases and the best Internet sources, including
subject directories, Web pages for professional associations,
textbook sites for your classes, ebooks, etc. Also
included are suggested subject headings for searching the
library catalog, recommended reference books, and call numbers
in case you just want to go to the shelves and browse.
Internet Search
This page provides links not only to the popular search
engines but also to scholarly and professional subject
directories. Want to get right to the really good stuff,
the kinds of Web sites that your professor will approve?
Try a subject directory. Also linked from this page are
Internet introductions and evaluations, and guidance, with
examples, on citing Internet sources in your papers.

Classes, Tutorials
Today's
world of information is complex and varied. Publishers continue to
produce their wares copiously in traditional print form, while
electronic databases and web sites multiply. How to make sense of
all this? Your OCC libraries are here to help. Take
advantage of our student success seminars, tutorials, and faculty
workshops. Don't let the cyber-bus leave without you!
For Faculty
OCC Library staff are here to assist faculty in the educational enterprise.
Our library catalog is online via the web, and we've made remote access
to research databases easily available. We offer orientations for
your
classes and one-on-one assistance. We are happy to place
items on reserve for you, to borrow items from other libraries, and to
purchase the materials you need to support the curriculum. Bring
your class to the library; we'll be pleased to see you.
