Occupational Descriptions and Salary Information


MOIS - Available only in OCC campus libraries. This software program provides four categories to aid in career development. To reach MOIS students may click on the MOIS icon from the library computer desktop or ask the librarian for guidance. For a similar service that can be accessed from off-campus, see the Michigan Jobs and Career portal, above.

Occupational Outlook Handbook - This is the classic handbook on careers available online - contains outlook, job requirements, and salaries for most occupations in the U.S.

O*NET Online - Information is offered in three major areas of career research:

  1. “Occupations” (identifies required skills and abilities)
  2. “Skills” (lists 6 categories of skills/abilities to be filled out by searcher which will suggest occupations for exploration)
  3. “Crosswalk” (presents occupations related to searcher’s choice of work)

salary.com - The "Salary Wizard" creates salary reports, which provide median base salaries in various occupations and professions, in addition to what a worker is expected to earn thereafter.
