Famed OCC Potters Market Set for December 4, 5 and 6
Hand-crafted ceramic sculptures, teapots,
birdhouses, soap dispensers, jewelry, ornaments and much more will be on sale
at the 34th annual Oakland
Community College Royal Oak Campus Potters Market. Over 130 potters will
sell their wares at the event on December 4, 5 and 6. Admission is free and
the public is invited.
The sale fills every nook and cranny of the
12,000 square foot United Food & Commercial Workers’ Union Hall in Madison
Heights. The hall is located at 876 Horace Brown Drive, two blocks south of 13 Mile Road between Stephenson Highway and John R.
The main floor displays include contemporary
and realistic sculptures, raku, functional porcelain and stoneware pottery. A
“basket area” will contain smaller items such as mugs, candleholders and
decorative tiles ideal as holiday stocking stuffers – all priced under $20. A
jewelry department, including holiday ornaments, will also be open. Each area
is restocked continually, so that the selection is as complete on the last day
of the show as on the first.
Sale hours are:
Friday December 4 10
a.m. – 8 p.m.
Saturday December 5 10
a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday December 6 10
a.m. – 5 p.m.
The largest sale of its type in the country,
the Potters Market is also unique because it enables the advanced and former
students of OCC’s Royal Oak Ceramic Technology program to become involved in
all aspects of planning, organizing, staffing, publicity, setup, sales and
record keeping for the event. This year guest potters have also been invited
to participate. Their work will further expand the variety of clay products
available to visitors.
