In compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Public Safety Department is giving notice of a possible threat to the community.
Current
UPDATE: 11/10/2009
After a thorough investigation by the OCC Department of Public Safety, the claim of a rape at the Orchard Ridge Campus on Thursday, October 22, has been proven to be unfounded and the woman who made the claim has recanted. The college’s closed circuit television system, installed to foster campus safety, was instrumental in providing information that resolved the issue.
Although it can be alarming when a Timely Warning Notification is initiated, please keep in mind that the college is required to provide that information when it can be considered that there may be an ongoing threat to the campus community. Despite the shortage of information, as in this matter, not only do we think it prudent to share it, we are mandated to do so by law.
Although this news is reassuring, it should not allow us to relax when it comes to our own safety and security. Always use good safety practices in your life at work, school, and wherever you travel. We remind you that Public Safety continuously strives to maintain Orchard Ridge and all other college sites as safe environments for students, staff, and visitors. Public Safety continuously patrols all campuses and escort services are available at all times.
