Michigan Service Scholars

Now available for the first time to students at Oakland Community College is the
Michigan Service Scholars $1000 Non-Competitive Scholarship
All students who apply on time will be accepted into the program. The scholarship is funded through a
grant from The Michigan Community Service Commission and The Corporation for
National and Community Service.

In order to receive the scholarship, students must:

Apply on time
We will begin accepting applications in September 08.
The program is first come first serve, so applications might not be accepted after that time.

Meet Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must be 17 years of age.
  • Applicants must be enrolled at a member institution of Michigan Campus Compact.
  • Applicants must have a High School diploma/GED or College Transcript.
  • Applicants must hold U.S. citizenship or other lawful authorization to work in the United States.
  • Selected candidates must be drug-free at the time of their appointment. The MSS Program abides by Drug-Free Workplace policies.
  • Some projects may require the use of the Members’ own transportation.
  • Applicants must provide a current/working e-mail address

Attend one training class
The 4 hours of training counts as part of the 300 hours! If we have enough participation, the training class will be held here @ OCC!

  • Thursday, January 11th 5:00–9:00 p.m. Michigan State University (Brody Hall Rm.129)
  • Tuesday, January 16th 5:00–9:00 p.m. Northwood University (Miner Lounge, Miner Residence Hall)
  • Thursday, January 18th 5:00–9:00 p.m. Schoolcraft College (McDowell Center Rm. 200)

Complete 300 hours of Community Service over the course of one year
That’s only 7 hours per week if you served for 45 weeks!
