Model
The OCC Student Development Planning Model is a tool for assessing
student out-of-the-classroom development needs, and creating programs,

about your campus' needs.
Each campus
Student Life Committee will be seeking ideas and individuals interested
in offering programs, activities and services for out-of-the-classroom
student development next academic year.

It's all here: College Services, Distance Learning opportunities,

Student Life Fundable Proposals
For the last two years, OCC has provided special funding to campus-based
projects designed to address student development needs and enhance
learning. The next call for Student Life Fundable Proposals
will be issued in March 2006.

Service Learning at OCC
One of the important goals of the Student Life Committee for
2004-2006 is to promote Service Learning opportunities for
our students and faculty. Workshops scheduled through 2005
will help prepare faculty and staff to create and support learning
activities that engage our students in their communities.

Student Development
Research and Resources
The Journal of College and Character
Sponsored by the Center for the Study of Values in College Student
Development at Florida State University, the Journal of College
and Character includes resources and information designed to encourage
discussion, research, and educational strategies on character development
in college. Topics include civic responsibility, leadership development,
students' own reflections on moral conflicts in college and more.

Michigan Campus Compact
"Michigan Campus Compact promotes the education and commitment of
Michigan college students to be engaged citizens, through creating
and expanding academic, co-curricular, and campus-wide opportunities
for community service, service learning, and civic engagement."
MCC also offers mini-grants to member institutions, maintains an
inventory of discipline-specific faculty resources, and sponsors
workshops for faculty and staff at all Michigan colleges.

According to the Student Activities staff at the College of DuPage,

involvement was the second most important factor in identifying

Students in Dr. Patrick O'Connor's
Political Science classes created "Political Action Day 2004" as
an opportunity for OCC students to meet candidates, learn about
