Womencenter

The Womencenter is a college program providing resources for students and area women. Our purpose is to help empower women through the development of educational and supportive programs and services for campus and community women that promote growth in both personal and political awareness.

We help women identify their personal and social needs and assist them in developing the skills to meet them through education and participation. Our programs take the form of workshops, seminars, supportive groups, conferences, peer counseling, and information, resource, and referral services.

For over thirty-five years, the Womencenter has offered substance and sustenance to the many women who have walked through our doors. We look forward to assisting you with your personal, career, educational, and resource needs and we welcome your referral of friends and family who can benefit from our services.

If you would like or need us to be a partner in your journey, we invite you to connect with us.

A brief history of the Womencenter

The Womencenter is housed at the Orchard Ridge Campus. Students and community members who wish to meet at one of the other OCC sites may call the Womencenter to make an appointment at their home campus or the most conveniently located campus.

"Sexual Assault Awareness Program" OCC provides this seminar to create basic awareness and deeper understanding of the facts of sexual assault, to provide comprehensive and appropriate general and specific information on sexual assault, and provide prevention habits and techniques, verbal, escape, and last resort skills. Dates for Winter 2010 are: Tuesday, March 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the Royal Oak Campus, and Tuesday, April 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Orchard Ridge Campus. You must call the number below to reserve a space.

"Back to School Day" The Womencenter and the Farmington branch of the American Association of University Women invite you to join us on Friday, May 7 from 10:00 - 2:00 at the Orchard Ridge Campus. Attend a free day of information on returning to school: education and career directions, skills needed to attend college, financial assistance to pay for college, and how to cope with life changes due to re-entry into education. Call for more information.

MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) Camp will be held July 12-16 on the Orchard Ridge Campus. High-school girls ages 15-19 may apply to attend this unique, empowering camp. Girls will construct part of a small-frame house using carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry and other skills. This year's brochure will be available in April. See lst year's brochure for general information and to consider the camp for this summer. Call (248) 522-3642 for current information.
