Counseling in the College Selection Process

This course will provide students with an introduction to the theory
and skills needed to work with students and families in the college selection process. The course will:

  • address preparation for college
  • developmental theory of college selection and research
  • college admission testing
  • application process; including Financial Aid
  • creating an effective college counseling office

This course is open to any school counselor, graduates holding a Masters Degree in school counseling, students in a Masters counseling program, or those enrolling into a counseling program; with permission of the instructor.

Instructor: Patrick O’Connor, Ph.D. is the recipient of the 2009 Excellence in Government Relations Award, given by the National Association for College Admission Counseling. The course is one of less than 50 offered in the United Sates, and the only one offered by a community college.
