CREST Wins National Media Exposure

Dorene Lund is hustled into the CREST convenience store as a Detroit Free Press photographer captures the action.

OCC’s CREST project figured prominently in an article on anti-terrorist training facilities appearing in the December 3 edition of USA Today.
The article, which provided an overview of various types of emergency responder training programs across the nation focused on the OCC project as one of the “few available to state and local police, fire and public safety departments to train together in realistic settings”. Bill Furtaw, OCC’s director of emergency services training was quoted extensively in the piece.

The USA Today article also featured color photographs taken by the Detroit News at the Oakland County Sheriff Department’s practice exercise at the CREST site on November 13, including the now-familiar shot of our own Dorene Lund being taken hostage by “gunman” Norm Campbell of the sheriff’s department.
The national exposure has resulted in a flurry of calls for further information by the national media including ABC News, CNN and the Fox News Channel, which featured CREST in a nine-minute segment on the program “From the Heartland” on December 7.
