Essays must address the theme:
In today's world we are dealing with the
realities of a global marketplace. With
that in mind, if you were elected President
of the United States, what global priority
would you set for the country, e.g. economic,
social, political, environmental, and why?
If your priority is met, what impact will
there be on other countries and their citizens?
- First place $1,000, second place $500
and third place $250
- Five "honorable mention" awards of $200
will be granted. These awards will be in
the form of an OCC Bookstore Voucher.
- Winners will be contacted/announced
by Friday, April 18, 2008.
- The first, second and third place winners
will be recognized at an Awards ceremony.
- The first, second and third place essays
will be posted to the college’s website.
- A Press Release will announce the top
three winners.
- Submission of an Essay does not guarantee
an award.
- Typed using double line spacing
- Length between 1,000 and 1,250 words
- 12 point font size
- 1 inch margins (top, bottom, left and
right)
- Page numbered (lower right)
- When and where appropriate proper citation
of references should be included using MLA
or APA format. Essays containing plagiarized
text will automatically be disqualified.
- Essays must be submitted electronically
on or before 5:00 pm on Friday, March 14,
2008 as an e-mail attachment to
essay@oaklandcc.edu
- Submitted essays must meet all competition
requirements in order to be considered for
any award.
- All essays must be submitted as an e-mail
attachment to
essay@oaklandcc.edu on or before Friday,
March 14, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. (EST).
- A completed Student Information Cover
Sheet must be submitted at the same time
as the essay: This form can be downloaded
from www.oaklandcc.edu/essay or you can
create your own cover sheet so long as it
contains all the following information:
- Students first and last name
- OCC Student ID#
- Complete mailing address (street,
city, state, zip)
- Day time phone number (including
area code)
- Cell Phone including area code (if
available)
- Active e-mail address
The following eligibility criteria
will be applied to all students submitting an
essay:
- Students can submit only one essay for
the 2007-08 academic year contest.
- Students are eligible for only one award
during the 2007-08 academic year contest.
- Verification of current enrollment in
at least one credit hour during fall 2007
or winter 2008 will be conducted at the
time of essay submission.
- OCC employees along with their family
members and dependents are not eligible.
