Technology Program

Associate in Applied Science (EXS.AAS)
The Exercise Science and Technology program
leads to an Associate Degree in Applied Science.
This degree and certificate program will include
classroom and laboratory experiences and applications
in fitness testing and principles of conditioning
under various variables and conditions: age, environment,
gender, nutrition, and disease and disability.
Another important component of the program is
health promotion.
The students will be certified in CPR and First
Responder. They will learn principles of motivation,
public speaking, and behavior change. The students
will also receive direct field experience in an
exercise internship and in a special topic
internship.
The candidates should enjoy exercise, health
promotion, and be a role-model of a healthy lifestyle.
They should have an aptitude for working with
adults and cooperating with other health professionals.
Upon completion of the program, the students
will be prepared to find employment where exercise
and health promotion is used in preventive intervention,
as well as therapeutic application. Students
interested in transferring to a bachelor's program
in Exercise Science or related field should consult
with an Oakland Community College counselor. Students are
encouraged to contact the Program Coordinator when considering this program.
The design of this program also provides students
with the opportunity to broaden their skills and
expertise by participating in the following
Exercise Science and Technology option: * Business
There are a number of different certifying bodies including The
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and
Conditioning Association (NSCA), and
American Council on Exercise (ACE).
