2005 - 2006 MICHIGAN NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
FACT SHEET
The Michigan Nursing Scholarship is available to Michigan residents enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) at an eligible institution (OCC) in a program leading to a Licensed Practical Nurse certification, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Bachelor Degree in Nursing (not applicable at OCC). Students will be selected for scholarship awards by their college financial aid office. Scholarships are awarded based on credit hours, but cannot exceed cost of attendance minus other financial assistance.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Accepted and enrolled in the Oakland Community College Nursing Program (PNE, TPN, ADN) at least half-time (6 credits).
- Cannot be used for prerequisite courses.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Michigan resident since July 1, 2004.
- U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Not in default on a student loan.
- No felony convictions.
- Not incarcerated.
- Meet OCC’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (same one used for financial aid eligibility).
- Agree to gain nursing licensure and gain direct care nursing employment in Michigan within one year of completing a nursing program.
- Agree to work full time for each year of full time scholarship assistance, and repay the scholarship if the work requirement is not met.
OCC AWARDING POLICY
- Preference given to previous Michigan Nursing Scholarship recipients.
- Recipients with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and 12 completed credit hours at OCC, subject to funding availability.
AWARD MAXIMUM PER SEMESTER
- $2,000 for 12 credit hours or above
- $1,500 for 9 - 11 credit hours
- $1,000 for 6 - 8.5 credit hours
The Michigan Nursing Scholarship, in conjunction with other financial assistance, must not exceed the cost of attendance. Students receiving other aid may see a reduction in the Michigan Nursing Scholarship award.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Students will be awarded using the enrollment information from the Nursing Department. Notification will be mailed to students in mid- to late-September.
The Michigan Nursing Scholarship will not be awarded prior to the beginning of fall classes. Students should plan to pay unless they are receiving other types of financial assistance.
