Summary: Four Types of Searches

 BASIC SEARCH
Basic  |  Advanced  |  Power  |  Multi-Libraries |  Search History  |  SEARCH GUIDE

Basic Search has an arrow-down window that lets you pick one of eleven types of searches.  As its default it has an "anywhere keyword" search (same as Quick Search), which examines all information on all records in the library catalog.  But why search the author and subject and all the other fields of all library records when what you may want is, for example, a particular title?  Pick one of the eleven types to focus and speed your search.

Broadcast Search lets you construct a search using one or more of the popular keyword types, or an ISBN, and direct it to multiple DALNET libraries.  It always searches OCC; plus it searches any of the other libraries in DALNET that you select.

A Word about Quick Search

That little search box near the upper right of the four search screens is for people in a hurry.  It is a general keyword search, a type that examines all the information on all the records in the library catalog.  It's "quick" in that you don't have to take time to carefully craft your search; you just pop in a word or two and see what comes up.  It's not quick on the receiving end, however.  It casts a wide net, retrieves many hits, and forces you to take time reviewing the results to find something useful.  To really save time, try one of the three main types of searches described above.
