OCC Subjects A - Z

You might say that "Subjects A -Z" is an OCC Libraries variation on "Resources by Major."  It is geared to areas of study at OCC.  But not only does it point you to good Internet sources; it also groups them in various ways, singling out subject directories, specially focused sites such as professional associations, sources of articles and books, links to OCC departments, and more.

Take a look.  We'll wait here while you browse Subjects A-Z.

...Welcome back.  We hope that you saw some potential aids for your studies here at OCC.  Whether you want good internet sites, online journals, or library books and magazines (and more), these OCC subject guides should point you in the right direction.

Is there a downside to subject directories?  Well, they are generally smaller because thoughtful humans can't work as fast as algorithm-driven computer programs.  But the major gain is that you cut way down on irrelevant hits.  What you seeas a subject headingis always what you get.

We would like to recommend a few other subject directories.  OCC Libraries' "Internet Search" has a section with links to subject directories.  Take a moment to explore some of those.  If you look at the Infomine subject directory, you will notice that it has a search engine of its own.  Is this a contradiction in terms?  No, because the database it searches is not one created by computers that count words and links.  The database comprises links to web pages and sites reviewed and selected by knowledgeable people.  And that is what the search engine searches.  And of course, you can still browse Infomine.

We'll wait here while you peruse subject directories linked from Internet Search.

...Welcome back.  What we've reviewed so far are general subject directories that cover a variety of topics.  But what if you want to focus on a single subject or topic?

Next we'll see how you can find subject directories on particular topics.
