Lending Policies

On this page: Library Card | Check-out Periods | Maximum Number of Items | Recalls | Renewals | Materials not Returned | Overdue Fines

OCC students, faculty and staff and Oakland County residents (at least 18 years of age) may borrow materials.  Library materials may be returned to any OCC campus library.

LIBRARY CARD

A library card is required for checking out materials. One can be obtained at the circulation desk of any campus library. Identification is required. The library card should not be discarded. It can be revalidated for a student who registers for another semester, or changed to resident status for a former student who resides in Oakland County.

Please report a lost card to any circulation desk. There is a charge to replace a library card.

CHECK-OUT PERIODS

  • Books - 3 weeks
  • Audiocassettes - 1 week
  • Compact Disc - 1 week
  • Pamphlets - 1 week
  • Videocassettes - period varies: 1 & 3 day, 1 week

Periodicals and newspapers do not circulate but may be photocopied or printed on microfilm/microfiche printers or from web resources.

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ITEMS

A student or staff member may have no more than 15 items checked out.  A resident or guest may have no more than 5 items checked out.  No library user may have more than 5 items on a particular subject checked out.

RECALLS

All materials are subject to recall for OCC faculty use.

RENEWALS

All materials may be renewed twice if there is not a hold for another patron or recall for faculty. Renewals may be accomplished in person, by phone, and online.

MATERIALS NOT RETURNED

The first overdue notice is issued 7 days after the first due date. If material is not returned, a second notice is issued 7 days later. If required, the third notice is a bill for unreturned material.

The charge for an unreturned item starts at $50.00 and includes a processing fee of $10. The final charge may vary depending on whether the library is able to determine a replacement cost for the item. For example, if replacement cost is determined to be $30.00, the final charge, including processing fee of $10.00, would be $40.00. If replacement cost is determined to be $90.00, the final charge, including processing fee of $10.00, would be $100.00

A charge of $15.00 or more will result in the loss of borrowing privileges from OCC libraries until the charge is paid.

A charge of $50.00 or more will prohibit registration for new classes until the charge is paid.

With proper documentation, charges and fees may be reduced in case of stolen materials.

OVERDUE FINES

    • Videos - $1.00 per day
    • Reserves & reference items not returned - $20.00 per day
