For Online Classes

Students in online courses may Request a Library Card by email (the card may be needed for off-campus access to databases).  Ask a Librarian provides research help via phone, live chat, and email. OCC Distance Learning provides links to Blackboard and Educator, including general information and help.  Want to help yourself?  See below for self-help tips.

 

For Students Using Blackboard or Educator

If your instructor has provided a link to "Online Library Resources" in your Blackboard or Educator course, you may access research databases from anywhere.  No ID or password is necessary once you have logged into your course.

Interlibrary Loan

 Need BOOKS, VIDEOS, or CDs?  Check the library catalog.  Help is available for searching the OCC library catalog. When viewing search results in the library catalog, be sure to view the full record to determine exactly where an item is and whether it is available for check-out.  If a book is not in your library, you may request interlibrary loan.   But also note that you may go to any OCC library and check out books with your OCC library card. 

If you don't find the books you need in the Library Catalog, you can request them from your campus library reference desk by phone or email. You may also go to several local libraries with reciprocal borrowing privileges and check out books with your OCC library card. Check to see if the library requires an Infopass before going!
Online Renewal Have books due back tomorrow?  You can renew them online with your library card.  (This won't work if they're already overdue, so don't wait!) 
Articles / Databases To locate articles, search in our online databases.  You will need to know your OCC Online Services ID and password to log in from off campus.  (Check with any OCC library for details.)  Millions of full-text articles are available, and several databases allow you to restrict your search to scholarly journals.

If you discover where an article was published but the full text is not provided in the database you are searching,

  1. Check the list of OCC Online Journals to see whether it is available in another database.
  2. Check the library catalog to see if an OCC library carries the print publication.
