Print Management at OCC

A new print management system will be implemented in the Academic Support Centers (ASCs) and Libraries during the first week of Fall Term, 2008. The goal is to cover printing for routine academic work and provide an incentive for responsible use of resources. Students will receive 150 free prints/term.

Why is this system necessary? The amount of printing has been growing each term as our free printing attracts students from other institutions and people from the community. Recreational printing by OCC students is also rising. Fees and tuition subsidize printing, but cannot cover the continually rising costs.

Are there benefits beyond cost control to the new system? Based on a pilot at the RO and SF campuses, we know the system leads to better services for students. The system frees computers for OCC students, organizes print routing and pick-up, and demonstrates that the College is doing its part to reduce waste and protect the environment.

Is the new system different from the RO and SF campus pilot? The new system will not require print cards. Students will enter their OCC Online Services ID and password to print. Additional funds may be added to accounts at the any of the 5 OCC Libraries.
