Reciprocal Borrowing

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
With what other colleges' libraries do we have reciprocal borrowing agreements?
  • Eastern Michigan University
  • Henry Ford Community College
  • Lawrence Technological University
  • Macomb Community College
  • Madonna University
  • Schoolcraft College
  • University of Detroit/Mercy
  • University of Michigan-Dearborn
  • Walsh College

What two pieces of ID are necessary at the other library?

  1. A current registration receipt or current student ID card (available at Student Activities) or proof of current OCC employment for staff borrowers.
  2. A picture ID, such as a driver's license.

WHAT IS "RECIPROCAL BORROWING"?

Reciprocal borrowing is an arrangement between libraries that lets one library's patrons check out materials from another library. Oakland Community College Libraries participate in a reciprocal borrowing arrangement with several other area college libraries (see the box to the right). That means OCC students and staff can go directly to those libraries and check materials out.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR RECIPROCAL BORROWING?

Currently enrolled OCC students and OCC staff. At OCC, we accept staff and students from partner libraries (see the box to the right).

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR THIS PRIVILEGE?

  • You must show proper identification (see the box to the right).
  • You must return the materials directly to the other library yourself.
  • What you may borrow, and for how long you may borrow it, is determined by the other college library's policies. For example, you may not be able to borrow certain media (e.g., video) or items on reserve.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM BORROWING FROM ONE OF OUR OWN OCC LIBRARIES?

  • Please remember that you are a guest at the other library. For such reciprocal borrowing agreements to continue, materials must be returned, and returned on time.
  • Overdue fines and replacement costs will be determined by the lending library. Often charges at other institutions are higher than at OCC. These charges will be passed along to you.

  • Overdue fines will result in the loss of borrowing privileges from OCC libraries until the charge is paid.

A charge of $50.00 or more will prohibit registration for new classes until the charge is paid.
