Types of Search Tools

The two types of search tools that you will be using in this tutorial are the library catalog and research databases.

Library Catalogs

Provide a searchable database of all of the materials a library purchases. These include records for print and electronic books, magazines, journals, newspapers, electronic government documents, websites, videos, DVDs CDs, and audiobooks. The OCC Library catalog does not include articles.

Research Databases

Are used to find articles on a topic.

Some research databases, such as InfoTrac OneFile, are general or multidisciplinary.

Others specialize in a particular subject area, such as nursing, psychology, or business.
