Dancer Bertram Weston returns to perform his acclaimed program, “I Believe I Can Fly,” at two Oakland Community College campuses in February.  In addition he will offer two master signing performance workshops for those interested in learning how to combine the art of dance and communicative signing.

Deaf since childhood, Mr. Weston developed his unique presentations as a way to raise public awareness of deaf culture and make people more comfortable in communicating with the deaf.  His performances use signing and dance to tell stories of life, live and happiness.  The program also features a patriotic component – he honors the police, firemen and thousands of others who lost their lives in the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

A professional dancer, Mr. Weston moves and signs his songs in a manner that amazes family audiences as they realize that they can understand his message with no previous knowledge of signing.

Mr. Weston will perform on Thursday, February 17 at OCC’s Highland Lakes Campus in Waterford, and Friday, February 18 at the Orchard Ridge Campus in Farmington Hills.

General admission for either performance is $15 – students and seniors pay $13.  Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Weston will also offer two master signing performance workshops on Tuesday, February 22, one at the Highland Lakes Campus Student Center Arena from 12 noon to 2 p.m., the other at the Orchard Ridge Campus’ Studio Café from 6 to 8 p.m.  Admission to either workshop is $15, and advanced registration is required.

The Highland Lakes Campus is located at 7350 Cooley Lake Road in Waterford.  The Orchard Ridge Campus is located at 27055 Orchard Lake Road, just south of I-696 in Farmington Hills.  Ample free parking is available in campus lots close to the performance sites at both campuses.
