The Oakland Community College Board of Trustees selected Dr. Timothy R. Meyer as the college’s eighth chief executive officer at its regular business meeting of Monday, December 10.

Dr. Meyer succeeds Interim Chancellor Clarence Brantley who served in an interim capacity since the departure of Dr. Mary Spangler in March, 2007.  Mr. Brantley now resumes his former duties as the college’s vice chancellor of administrative services.

      Dr. Meyer served as the president of Sault College in Ontario, Canada from 2002 to 2006.  In 2001 and 2002, he served with the Land Resource Cluster for the Government of Ontario as a senior manager for Information Technology Strategic and Organizational Development.  From 1989 to 2001, Dr. Meyer was the general manager for the Ontario Forest Research Institute after serving as the lead scientist, program leader and research scientist.  From 1986 to 1989, he was a faculty member in the Department of Botany at Manitoba University.

      Dr. Meyer earned his doctorate in the Department of Forestry at the University of Florida with a major in pathology/epidemiology.  He holds a master’s degree in business and economics from Lake Superior State University and earned his master’s degree in plant pathology from North Dakota State University.  Dr. Meyer earned an undergraduate degree in forest resource management from the University of Minnesota.  He currently is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Algoma University.

      Dr. Meyer is expected to take the helm of OCC following board approval of a salary and benefit package.

      Oakland Community College is the largest community college in Michigan and the 26^th largest in the United States.  With five campuses throughout Oakland County OCC enrolls 70,000 students annually and offers degrees and certificates in more than 130 fields, including university transfer degrees in business, science and the liberal arts.
