The Oakland Community College Board of Trustees is seeking community volunteers to serve on the board’s audit committee.

Composed of three OCC Trustees and four community members, the audit committee will review the college’s annual financial statements and make recommendations to the board of trustees.

Other duties include:

·        Recommendations to the board regarding the appointment of any public accounting firm employed by the college.

·        Receipt of complaints regarding account internal controls and auditing matters.

·        Recommendations to the board regarding the appointment of independent counsel and other advisors required to carry out the board’s audit duties.

Community audit committee candidates must reside or work in Oakland County and have submitted an application form.  Four candidates will be appointed by the OCC board and will serve three-year terms.

“This is an excellent way for the public to oversee the financial operations of one of Oakland County’s major tax-supported institutions” said OCC Trustee and Audit Committee Chair Anne Scott.  “We are seeking community oversight of the college’s budgetary processes to make it even more responsive to public needs” Ms. Scott added.

With five campuses located throughout Oakland County, OCC is Michigan’s largest community college and the 26^th largest in the nation.  OCC’s budget for fiscal year 2007-08 is slightly more than $155 million.
