OCC National Women’s Art Exhibition Calls for Entries

The Womencenter at Oakland Community College’s Orchard Ridge Campus announces its eighteenth annual national women’s art exhibition and invites women artists to apply.

 

The juried exhibition, entitled “From Our Perspective,” will run September 18 – October 10 at the OCC Orchard Ridge Campus’ Smith Theatre Gallery.  The accepted artists will be honored at a public Awards Reception and Open House on Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m.

 

The exhibition is open to women artists nationwide and offers four cash prizes.  The prizes are:  Best of Show – $800; Purchase Prize – up to $250; President’s Award – $250.  Works submitted must be recent and original; all media are accepted except video and performance.  The entry fee is $25 for up to three works.  Entries are due by August 1, 2008.

This year’s juror is Susan Goethel Campbell who lives and works in Detroit.  Ms. Goethel Campbell received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA from Alma College.  She has taught studio art at the College for Creative Studies, Penland School of Crafts, and Cranbrook Academy of Art.  Her work is included in many public and private collections, including the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The New York Public Library, The Detroit Institute of Arts, The Toledo Museum of Art, and The University of Michigan Special Collections Library.

 

Her recent solo exhibitions have been at the Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York City in 2006, and at the Lemberg Gallery in Ferndale, Michigan in 2007.  She is regularly included in group exhibitions, including the 2007 exhibition, “Non-Declarative Art” at The Drawing Center in New York City.  Campbell has been awarded a printmaking residency in Belgium at the Frans Masereel Centrum for the spring of 2008.
