Former
University of Michigan
basketball star and Detroit Piston Antoine Joubert signed on May 5 to coach the
Oakland Community College Raiders men’s basketball team.
Joubert,
a 1983 alumnus of Detroit’s Southwestern
High School was named Number One
Player in the Nation by “USA Today” the year he graduated. He went on to play four years for the University
of Michigan and was drafted by the
Detroit Pistons after earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sports
management in 1987. From 1990 to 2002 he
toured Europe, Asia and South
America as a professional player, and served as head coach and
part owner of the American Basketball Association’s Detroit Panthers from 2003
to 2007.
Joubert takes the helm of a struggling
Raiders team that finished last season with a 5-22 record. “Oakland
Community College is pleased to
welcome Mr. Joubert as part of our athletic program”, said OCC Executive
Director of Student Services Dr. Lloyd Crews.
“I am confident that his experience and expertise will turn this program
around in short order.”
Mr. Joubert is a Farmington
Hills resident.
