Former University of Michigan basketball star and Detroit Piston Antoine Joubert signed on May 5 to coach the Oakland Community College Raiders men’s basketball team.

Joubert, a 1983 alumnus of Detroit’s Southwestern High School was named Number One Player in the Nation by “USA Today” the year he graduated.  He went on to play four years for the University of Michigan and was drafted by the Detroit Pistons after earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sports management in 1987.  From 1990 to 2002 he toured Europe, Asia and South America as a professional player, and served as head coach and part owner of the American Basketball Association’s Detroit Panthers from 2003 to 2007.

Joubert takes the helm of a struggling Raiders team that finished last season with a 5-22 record.  Oakland Community College is pleased to welcome Mr. Joubert as part of our athletic program”, said OCC Executive Director of Student Services Dr. Lloyd Crews.  “I am confident that his experience and expertise will turn this program around in short order.”
