Rules

- Use a semicolon to
show a relationship between two
independent clauses so close that you want
to put both independent clauses into the same sentence.
- Some things they tried have worked; others have
not.
- Students today are not so much interested in
learning; they are more interested in obtaining a good job when they
graduate.

- Use a semicolon
between items in a series that have internal punctuation.
- Cities with the highest temperatures last week
were Phoenix, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada; San Antonio, Texas; and
Detroit, Michigan.
