Academically Disadvantaged Students

Student at computer.Academically Disadvantaged students are those who have demonstrated (by attending class and struggling with the material) an inability to succeed academically without specific counseling and/or  tutorial support, i.e.:

  • Below 2.0 GPA in a particular class at any time during the semester (after first test or assignment)
  • In state approved developmental classes, including ESL.
  • Below a 2.0 GPA overall at OCC or transferring institution.
  • Low standardized test scores, (COMPASS or MTELP).
  • Lack of High School diploma or GED.
  • Have a history of repeated withdrawals or incompletes.
  • Note:  Students may also self-refer; however, a faculty referral may be requested if qualifications are not evident.

Referral Procedure

  • Faculty referral form completed by faculty member or counselor.
  • Student makes appointment with PASS Coordinator and brings referral to PASS  office.
